George Winston's 1982 tribute to the winter season, December, has sold more than 3 million copies and been certified triple-Platinum by the RIAA.  A testament to December’s enduring appeal and significance, in 2009 and 2012 - thirty years after its initial release -  the album appeared on Billboard’s Top Holiday Albums chart.

This 2013 edition of December features new cover art and comes in a beautiful digipak.

“The popular, unassuming pianist’s songs are pastoral wonders that purposefully evoke nature and landscapes in a way that’s as understated as it is beautiful.”

– Ben Salmon, Bend Bulletin

“Seasons and sense of place remain essential elements to Winston in terms of relating experiences to music.”

- Jim Dyar, Record Searchlight

There is a great wealth of traditional and contemporary music to draw from in doing an album for the winter season. These five albums have been very inspirational to me in conceiving of
this album and in doing albums for the seasons:

Vince Guaraldi: A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS (Fantasy Records 8431)
Howard Blake: THE SNOWMAN (CBS Records FM-39216) - soundtrack from the children's
animation
Joseph Byrd: A CHRISTMAS YET TO COME (Takoma Records C-1046)
John Fahey: THE NEW POSSIBILITY (Takoma Records C-1020)
Alfred S. Burt: THIS Is CHRISTMAS (inquiries to Anne S. Burt, Box 7333, Northridge, CA 91327)

The traditional pieces were chosen for their appropriateness as instrumental music for this album, rather than conveying a personal preference for any one culture or religion.
