Product Description
Sasha Matson was born in Seattle in 1954, grew up in Berkeley, and matured there during the hippie heydays of the late sixties and seventies. After attending UC Santa Cruz where he received his degree in history and film, he went on to study at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with John Adams and Elinor Armer. Adams later invited him to compose a work for the Conservatory New Music Ensemble which became the first version of Steel Chords, written during a period of private study with Andrew Imbrie. Matson arranged works of Gabrielli and Vaughan Williams for the San Francisco Symphony, wrote music for the Beck Dance Company, and an orchestral work, Spell, for conductor Kent Nagano, among many other projects before migrating south to the City of Angels, smog, and eternal sun.
