Product Description

Digitally remastered and on CD for the first time, DEEP VOICES is the original 1977 sequel to the classic album Songs of the Humpback Whale, one of the all-time best-selling natural sounds albums, first released in 1970 and on Living Music Records since 1991.

The array of fascinating sounds on DEEP VOICES include serene and lovely humpback choruses echoing through the vast cathedral-like ocean spaces, the social noises of humpback herds nd the trumpeting and loud howls of a mock charge. Other sounds vary from the slow moans of blue whales (the largest animals that have ever lived), to right whales' tail slapping (which is a primitive form of communication), loud blows of courting whales, underwater breaths and snores to the unmatched peace of softly-sighing, deeply-sleeping whales.

Many of the recordings were made in the waters off Bermuda and Argentina by renowned marine biologist Dr. Roger Payne, producer of the album, whose work has been covered on recordings, in a series of television films, an Emmy-winning Charlie Rose interview and in his book 'Among Whales'. Roger's liner notes to DEEP VOICES describe his years of experience in the presence of whales and offer background information on how each of the cuts was made.

DEEP VOICES and Songs of the Humpback Whale promote whale conservation throughout the world, with royalties from both albums benefiting the work of Wildlife Conservation International and the Whale Conservation Institute.

Only a few hundred years ago the bays and inlets of the world were alive with the slow, restful breathing of whales. DEEP VOICES offers an experience of how the shore of the earth used to sound, and how they could perhaps sound again, were whales left alone and their numbers allowed to recover.
